NVHD conducts environmental investigations on
the premises where children with an elevated
blood lead level have been reported.
Paint, dust, soil, and water
samples are
sent to the state laboratory
for analysis.
If toxic lead levels are
found, the
property owner is required by
law to abate
the lead from the premises.
NVHD provides
and/or ensures lead testing is available for children who reside in
valley towns, between the ages of 1 and 2 years or those less than 6
years who have not been previously screened.
The department also follows children with
elevated levels and provides education to
parents.
