SUMMARY:World TB Day
DESCRIPTION:\n\nWorld TB Day\nMarch 24 is World TB Day, marking the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced the discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the bacteria that cause #tuberculosis (TB). Dr. Koch’s discovery was the most important step taken toward the prevention and control of this deadly disease. Learn how new tests, shorter treatment regimens, and a focus on latent TB infection will help end TB in the U.S. \n\nDid you know that Naugatuck Valley Health District works collaboratively with the CT TB Control Program whose mission is to interrupt and prevent the transmission of TB, prevent emergence of drug resistant TB and reduce death, disability, illness, and much more caused by tuberculosis? NVHD works alongside the Connecticut Department of Public Health and physicians to conduct surveillance for TB disease and latent TB infection. Our Public Health Nurse conducts case interviews, education, screening, treatment and containment activities when we have a positive case, including Directly Observed Therapy (DOT), which consists of home visits for residents with infectious tuberculosis and screenings for the potentially exposed.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIt’s time to end the stigma around tuberculosis (TB). Learn more from #TB survivors: https://youtu.be/rxXRflGPNVA\n\n\nhttps://www.cdc.gov/tb/worldtbday\n\n\n \n\n
